48 hours in Vienna
48 hours in Vienna, is part of a new series that captures a city in a matter of hours. Whether you’re short on time, money or both! It’s the ideal place to start when planning those quick trips.
The first in the series is my visit to Vienna. A city in Austria that I believe has something for everyone. So dig in and enjoy this blog post, adventure awaits.
Day 1
8.30 am morning. It’s time for breakfast ready for a day of walking eating and more eating. Join in.
9.30 am But before that, it’s time for a quick shop. Snacks are of the utmost importance when exploring a new city and for those cosy evenings when you’re catching a film or just relaxing at your accommodation.
11 am A mid-morning start to the day but lots to explore and having these City passes means the world is our oyster! Literally! A city card allows you access to the city of Vienna via all methods of public transport, from the moment you land. It also offers discounts in museums, theatres, shopping and restaurants.
1 pm Vienna is such a beautiful city that you could simply get lost in the streets and it would be a trip well spent. One of the first places we visited was Belvedere. The palace is split into the upper and lower parts and is simply magnificent. You can spend hours getting lost inside the art exhibitions or you can stay outside and explore the gardens as we did.
You won’t run out of interesting things to see. Below is a very intense fight on the grounds of upper Belvedere.
3 pm More walking and a good helping of gelato (not pictured because I gobbled it before I remembered to take a photo).
5 pm I had the chance to relive my childhood by heading over to Prater. Offering health doses of nostalgia Prater is an amusement park set amongst greenery with rides to keep you entertained for hours. Opened from 11 am – 12 am you won’t get bored at all. Make sure to bring cash, it’s free entry but the rides are chargeable. There are cash points dotted around as well as Madame Tussauds.
As Prater is pretty big you can explore on these cool double bikes. Just be aware only one person can steer and the other person has a fake steering wheel. Can you guess which one I used?
10 pm End the day with a chilled night at the hotel. Tomorrow is another jam-packed day.
Day 2
8 am Breakfast is calling and so are the streets of Vienna. Today will be busy with activities, boat rides and a bus tour planned.
9.30 am Cycling shorts on as we make our way to Hohe Wand Wiese to have a ride down the Toboggan slide.
Another ice cream post adrenaline rush, and well deserved
11 am Vienna is known for its cafe culture. There are so many to see and visit. Whether you want to people watch whilst sipping on a latte or indulge in pastries with a cup of tea, Vienna has it all.
We visited Hotel Sacher to try the infamous Sachertorte; one of Vienna’s culinary specialities invented by Franz Sacher. It is a chocolate cake, but not just any chocolate cake. Created using a top-secret recipe, visiting Hotel Sacher is definitely an experience. Beautifully decorated in the interior, there are hints of tradition all around you.
12pm Skkr Skkr. A quick rental of the lime scooters helped us get around to explore some places around the centre of Vienna. We saw the Vienna State opera, Freyung Passage, Graben street (Vienna’s most famous shopping street and also where Hotel Sacher is located) before heading to lunch.
Freyung Passage
1 pm All that wandering has me hungry, just outside of St Stephen’s Cathedral (which is a must-see), located on top of DO & CO Hotel is an amazing restaurant with a view.
With my belly full, it was time to explore the wonder that is St Stephen’s Cathedral.
2.30 pm
Next on the agenda was the Vienna Hop on Hop off Tour. I love these as they give you insight into a city that you may not have gained from just roaming independently.
2.45 pm Before the end of the tour we hopped off to have a peek at Schoenbrunn Palace, another majestic building in Vienna need I say more?
4.30 pm A trip to Vienna would not be complete without a visit to Alte Donau (Old Danube). A recreational space in Vienna, you can swim, fish, eat or rent a boat.
8.30 pm The Last supper + sunset before heading back to pack and get back to the UK.
I hope you enjoyed spending 48 hours in Vienna with me.
Until next time,
Koko xo
